An 18 year old woman in Austria is suing her parents in a bid to get embarrassing Facebook photo’s taken down off the social network website. It is reported that there are over 500 photos that she wants removing.
“They knew no shame and no limit,” she told The Local, a local English paper. “They didn’t care whether it was a picture of me sitting on the toilet or lying naked in my cot—every stage was photographed and then made public.”
Some countries have laws about this. In France, anyone who publishes and distributes images without the subject’s consent — including parents — can face a year in jail and a fine of up to €45,000.
After recently becoming a snap-happy parent myself, I look forward to these type of conversations in the distant future.
